Shemekia Copeland
Shemekia Copeland
Grammy Award-nominated blues vocalist Shemekia Copeland has opened for the Rolling Stones, headlined at the Chicago Blues Festival and numerous festivals around the world, scored critics choice awards on both sides of the Atlantic (the New York Times and the Times of London), shared the stage with such luminaries as Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Mick Jagger, and Eric Clapton, and has even performed at the White House for President and Mrs. Obama. She has won several W.C. Handy Awards and Blues Music Awards for her patented blend of modern blues, funk, soul and R&B, and was nominated for a 2017 Blues Music Award in the Contemporary Blues Female Artist category (she won the award the previous year).

The daughter of the late Texas blues guitar legend Johnny Clyde Copeland, Shemekia Copeland has established her own primacy in the field, literally having been crowned the new “Queen of the Blues” by the late Koko Taylor’s daughter, Cookie. Among the musicians with whom Copeland has collaborated on recordings are Dr. John, legendary Memphis soul guitarist Steve Cropper, keyboardist John Medeski, guitarist Marc Ribot, and bassist Chris Wood.
