Lloyd Cole
Lloyd Cole
Lloyd Cole is probably best known for his work as frontman and songwriter for UK band The Commotions in the mid-1980s, which produced such classics of literate, pop songcraft as “Perfect Skin” and “Rattlesnakes.” During the 1990s he relocated to New York City and produced a series of fine solo albums working with some of the best musicians of the time, including Matthew Sweet and Lou Reed sideman Fred Maher and Robert Quine.

Around 2000, Cole teamed with Jill Sobule and others to record and tour as a group called The Negatives. More recently, he has opted for the acoustic singer-songwriter approach, recording and touring solo, based out of his home in the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts.

Cole litters his songs with literary and pop culture references to such figures as Arthur Lee, Norman Mailer, Grace Kelly, Eva Marie Saint, Simone de Beauvoir, Truman Capote, Joan Didion, and Raymond Carver.

An avid golfer, Cole has recorded and performed songs by Marc Bolan, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, the Beatles, the Kinks, Pet Shop Boys, Burt Bacharach, and Kraftwerk.
