Jay Collins
Jay Collins
Reedman Jay Collins, a former bandmate of the late Gregg Allman, will be joined by a host of upstate New York musicians -- including vocalist Amy Helm, keyboardist Bruce Katz (also an Allman sideman), Connor Kennedy, and Brandon Morrison, as well as other friends and musical associates of the cofounder and longtime leader of the Allman Brothers Band -- to pay tribute to the departed legend. Allman, who died on May 27, helped create the sound of blues-drenched Southern rock with the Allmans, which he cofounded in 1969 with his brother, Duane, who died in a motorcycle crash in 1971. Along with the Grateful Dead, the Allmans also gave birth to jam-rock.

Jay Collins is best known for his saxophone and flute work with many artists, including Gregg Allman, Allman Brothers Band, Levon Helm, Donald Fagen and the Dukes of September (with Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs), James Hunter, and jazz greats such as the late Andrew Hill, Jacky Terrasson, and the late bassist LeRoy Vinnegar.
