Gabriel Tajeu
Gabriel Tajeu
Growing up in a household that appreciated diverse music, Gabriel was provided a mash up of influences across the spectrum from Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind, and Fire, to Miles Davis and Frank Sinatra. When it came to music that hit his core vocally, he gravitated to the styling, phrasing, and use of harmonies of R&B legends
Al Green and Marvin Gaye. Recently, it’s the music of Ben Harper, Ryan Adams, John Mayer, Joni Mitchell, D’Angelo, Brett Dennen, and Elvis Costello that has had a profound influence upon his writing.

Gabriel Tajeu’s first album, “Finding My Way,” reached #11 on the iTunes Japan R&B chart, and his first single, “Raindrops,” reached #48 on the Tokyo Top 100. He is following the success of his debut project, with an even more soulful project! In order to get the vintage sound he was looking for, Gabriel visited the legendary FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama to record his second record, “Southern Skies.” He used some of the same musicians as Aretha Franklin and Percy Sledge when they recorded in Alabama, including David Hood on bass and Spooner Oldham on keys. This record has many of the elements that made “Finding My Way” special like his soaring falsetto and exceptional use of harmonies, but it adds a touch more lyrical depth, full voice grit, and sweet edge to the music. Adding another layer to the project, Gabriel had the pleasure of recording tracks with David LaBruyere on bass (John Mayer, Shawn Mullins, David Ryan Harris), Jaron Olevski on keys (Amos Lee) and David Crenshaw on drums (Maxwell) to keep the record modern. This record is a reflection of Gabriel’s time in the Southeastern United States; honest, raw at times, polished at other times, full of tension and at the same time love. He will be presenting his songs acoustically in a stripped down fashion, sharing some of the inspirations and storied behind the songs, and also playing some of his favorite covers.
